Covenham Parish Council has been granted funds from National Lottery's Awards for All and East Lindsey District Council Investment Fund (ELIF) to provide an accessible toilet in the Parish Rooms.

The successful applications include £19,959 from National Lottery and £24,999 from ELIF.

This project hopes to attract more residents to attend parish council meetings and be more welcoming to residents and visitors alike.  Major refurbishments have already been completed to ensure a warm room for visitors who attend the weekly café and other events and this project will make the facility even more welcoming to those who find it difficult to attend events without a dedicated facility.

CVV as the leaseholders have carried out surveys to residents and results showed that facilities for the disabled will be welcomed.  The population of Covenham includes a lot of mature and elderly people and accessibility is currently restricted.

The funds will be used to purchase the land and outbuilding at the back of the Parish Rooms and the contract to instal the toilet facility.  This will improve and enhance the facilities offered in the premises and be more inclusive to those who have disabilities and require dedicated facilities.

This project has the following aims:

• Community Facilities – improve toilet facilities which are accessible to people with disabilities

• Community Cohesion – the project hopes to encourage those with disabilities to join in the various arts/classes and social events in the Parish Rooms knowing they will be catered for

• Core Strength – the more people joining in the activities, the more resilient and sustainable the activities held in the parish rooms

• Both young and older people – people with disabilities can both be young or old and the project will cater for both

• Heritage, Arts and Culture – the current events already being held in the Parish Rooms address these aims and encourage more people to join
